Lamentamos comunicar el fallecimiento del Dr. John Utting quien fuera reconocido geólogo y palinólogo del Servicio Geológico de Canadá.
Compartimos con ustedes una breve reseña de su vida que nos fue enviada junto con esta triste noticia:

John Utting
passed away August 17, 2018 at the age of 78. He is survived by his loving wife
Lindsay, four children Sonia (Bill), Oliver (Karen), Daniel (Tracy) and
Nicholas (Lieserl), nine grandchildren: Christopher, Henry, Wilbur,
Stanley, Benjamin, Timothy, Jonathan, Elizabeth and Darwin and brother Paul. He
was predeceased by his parents Bertram and Alice Utting. John was born and
raised in Norwich, England. He studied geology at Nottingham University and
later completed a Masters at Memorial University. He then returned to England
where he completed his Ph.D. in palynology at Sheffield University with field
work in the Luangwa Valley, Zambia. His career as a palynologist was not only a
job but his passion and that brought him and the family back to Canada
first to Quebec City and later Calgary where he worked at the Geological Survey
of Canada. John had a lifelong love for music and played the violin in the
Calgary Civic Symphony for 30 years. He was an avid beekeeper and loved the
outdoors, enjoying hiking and cross country skiing for many years. He was a
wonderful husband and father, and will be missed by all those that knew him. A
special thank you to the staff at Brentwood Care Centre for their care of John
the last two years. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the
Parkinson’s Association of Alberta (120, 6835 Railway St. SE, Calgary, T2H
2V6). A celebration of life service will be held in late September.
